Clinical Associate - Advanced Practice Provider

Company: OHSU
Location: Hillsboro
Posted on: May 3, 2021

Job Description:

Department Overview

The OHSU Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) is a system of 5 emergency departments, which creates an opportunity for providers to develop at a single primary site or practice across 2 or more sites. Since each site has a different patient population and workflow, this provides an opportunity to further develop clinical skills and experience. With the hybrid nature of community practice within an academic setting and department, leadership is continuing to support clinical development as well as career development.

The DEM is seeking a part-time (0.00FTE) nurse practitioner or physician assistant to join our team to be staffed in the emergency departments at Hillsboro Medical Center and Adventist Health Portland for relief shift work.

Hillsboro Medical Center (HMC) is a classic community emergency department with 31,000 visits annually, on the west side of Portland/Hillsboro in an agricultural based region. The department sees a wide variety of pathology and serves a large Latino and pediatric population. The hospital is a stroke center and also has a cardiac catheterization lab. The hospital staff is undergoing major transformation and many OHSU Marquam Hill departments are now providing specialty services at HMC. Unlike most community Emergency Departments, there is an academic blend to HMC. Currently, upper level emergency medicine residents rotate through HMC as an elective, with family and internal medicine resident residency program plans in process. There is one daily, 10-hour Advanced Practice shift.

The Adventist Health Portland (AHP) emergency department serves largely an urban environment on the east side of Portland, caring for over 50,000 patient visits per year. There are many communities at risk around the hospital including diverse nationalities as well as recent immigrants. AHP receives the most cardiac arrest resuscitations in Multnomah County (metro PDX) and has a very active stroke and cardiac program. There is excellent engagement and interaction with hospitalist service. The ED has initiated a research agenda and is currently participating in the ICE-CAP study, research on CNS cooling and recovery from cardiac arrest. This is also an academic site with a regular rotation of medical students, allowing for teaching opportunities. There are three, 10-hour daily Advanced Practice shifts.

As part of our emergency services team you will have autonomy as well as support with immediate access for advice and assistance. Maintain and raise your clinical skills in this learning organization through involvement in skills labs, peer review and CME support. Monthly education meetings allow for a focused group discussion and a process of care standardization.
