Job Description Summary
This position is part of the Manufacturing Sciences and
Technology (MSAT) function at Genentech’s Hillsboro Individualized
Therapies Operation (HIT) in Hillsboro, Oregon. HIT is a new
manufacturing facility focussed on delivering novel therapies that
are uniquely manufactured for each patient.
The Process Automation Engineer will support the integration of
process technologies, instrumentation and automation controls
across new and emerging pharmaceutical manufacturing platforms. The
successful candidate will collaborate with experts across multiple
functions and disciplines to implement, support and improve
automation systems. This role will be responsible for startup and
troubleshooting of manufacturing process equipment. You will also
perform MSAT responsibilities including process and validation
engineering and manufacturing support in partnership with other
members of the MSAT department. This role provides the opportunity
to closely partner with Global Engineering, Information Technology,
iNeST User Team and Process Technical Development as you work on
start-up activities for the new cGMP facility, processes and
equipment. You will be accountable for the effective operation and
compliance of the Automation, MES and production data systems. You
will also provide technical guidance and support to the process
engineers that will take guidance from you in providing Automation
support to the plant. You will also be responsible for ongoing
validation and optimization of the Automation systems and represent
the Process Automation systems during health authority
Enjoys working broadly across multiple disciplines to optimize
processes and solve problems.
Support for Automation systems including the Manufacturing
Execution System, OSIsoft PI data historian and control
Accountable for ongoing optimization and validation of
Automation systems and equipment Automation.
Partner with MSAT Engineers and optimize manufacturing
Provide guidance and support on Automation systems to fellow
Actively contribute to effective teamwork and quality
Oversee automation activities performed by equipment vendors,
internal staff and contractors.
Manage relationships with equipment suppliers to ensure robust
automation support and system performance.
Collaborate with Quality Unit on automation validation
Direct support to fellow process engineers and manufacturing
personnel. This includes on-call support for the full manufacturing
Ensure compliance with cGMPs.
Minimum of BA/BS in engineering.
Minimum of 8 years of industrial experience
Broad expertise in Automation.
Working knowledge of ISA88 and ISA95 standards as applied to

the demonstrated ability to transfer that knowledge to others.
Experience supporting aseptic pharmaceutical filling and
packaging technology is preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal,
leadership, and team skills
Ability to travel to support factory acceptance testing,
knowledge transfer and collaboration between teams in multiple
locations during commissioning, qualification and startup.
Extensive experience with start-up and validation of
manufacturing equipment, utility and process systems, including
requirements for documentation and testing
Builds trustful and effective relationships
Able to think innovatively and translate ideas into actionable

Work in office, production and laboratory environments
Lift up to 25 lbs may be required
Ability to sit, stand and move within work space for extended
