Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. An opportunity for a Registered Nurse skilled in PCU nursing is available in Cornelius, NC. This role is set in a newly established 12-bed Progressive Care Unit opening in early 2026. This contract position is ideal for nurses with a strong foundation in medical PCU care and a willingness to develop new competencies in a supportive environment. Location Cornelius, NC, offers a charming lakeside community with a blend of outdoor activities, shopping, and dining. It provides a peaceful setting with easy access to larger metropolitan areas. Role Overview You will deliver expert nursing care to adults with complex medical conditions such as CHF, COPD, GI bleeds, DKA, sepsis, and more. The patients may require management of ventilators, trachs, insulin drips, and dialysis. You will work within a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio, supported by CNAs and a charge nurse. Comfort with IV starts, central line maintenance, wound care, and lab draws is essential. Experience titrating drips like Cardizem and heparin is required, and willingness to learn ventilator and Precedex management is expected. EPIC EMR proficiency is mandatory. Qualifications & Desired Experience Minimum 2 years PCU nursing experience First-time travelers considered with over 5 years PCU experience Current BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications Competence in cardiac rhythm interpretation, NG tube insertion, PCA/kangaroo pump management Able to independently monitor patients without tele tech support Responsibilities Provide patient-centered care for adult medical PCU patients Administer medication drips safely and accurately Perform central line care, lab draws, wound care including wound vacs Float within region facilities as required, maintaining 1:4 ratios Utilize EPIC for documentation and patient management Scheduling & Work Environment 12-hour shifts, 0700-1900 or 1900-0700, 6-week rotating schedule Six weekend shifts every 6 weeks; holiday coverage approx. 75% Free parking and navy blue scrubs required Orientation includes 1-2 shifts on the unit for adjustment This contract role offers the chance to advance your PCU nursing expertise in a new unit environment with comprehensive hospital support including 24/7 RT and anesthesia availability.
