Job Description:

(ADN) level RN's. The right candidate will be committed to going
back to school for their BSN within the next two years. And after
six months, they'll be eligible to apply for our tuition assistance

Registered Nurse ensures the delivery of quality nursing care for
patients undergoing surgical and procedures in accordance with
age-related and individual needs, physician's orders, hospital
policy, standards of care and nursing practice. Responsible for
assessing the needs of patients, planning nursing care to meet
those needs, and ensuring that the plan of care is carried out and
documented according to the principles defined in the nursing
process.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESPerformed majority of the time: -
Performs circulating scrub and duties for all specialties that may
require surgical intervention. - Front desk functions: computer
scheduling, answering multi-line phones in accordance with
telephone courtesy standards, faxing, copying, chart assembly,
statistical audits, and record keeping. - Assists team to maintain
an efficient operation of the department staying within financial
parameters. - May assist with monthly staff meetings and precepting
of other employees. - Maintains patient logs. - Operates the
computer system to order lab work, department charges, data input,
and e-mail communications. - Inventory management: ordering
supplies, stocking shelves, checking outdates, inventory returns to
materials management. Establishes and maintains department
supply/equipment routine and non-stock inventory. Communicates
backorder information and coordinates substitution availability
with O.R. Manager/Director. Coordinates instrument
repair/replacement and loan/borrow processes. Provides services for
assembling supplies and instrumentation for scheduled and add-on
cases. - Patient transport includes: assists with lifting, turning,
and transporting patients from stretcher to bed, bed to wheelchair,
stretcher to OR table, and OR table to stretcher or bed. Will
escort patients to vehicle for discharge with a responsible adult.
- Linen/Biohazard Waste Management: using Standard Precautions;
will handle, order, stock linen, transporting clean/dirty linen and
biohazard to appropriate locations, order and manage supplies. -
Housekeeping: room turnover after each procedure and terminal
cleaning procedures according to department guidelines. Assists in
keeping hallways clear, returns equipment to its proper place.
Safely transports equipment, supplies, specimens and related
materials to other departments/units as assigned. Picks up blood
and blood products from Lab for O.R. or PACU. Maintains a safe
environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Reports potential
safety hazards. - Anesthesia assistance: supply management,
stocking and assisting the physician with induction, line
placement, patient airway. Will assist with anesthesia machine
turnover, maintenance of machines and related equipment including
calibrations and cleaning, according to manufacturer's
recommendations and hospital policy. - Sterile Processing: will
require strict adherence to Standard Precautions during
decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of surgical
instruments. Will manage inventory repair and replacement.
Responsible for maintenance of instruments, equipment trays
procedure books, sterilizer testing documentation, and inventory
sheets. Operates, tests and monitors sterilization and emergency
equipment according to manufacturer recommendations and hospital
policy/procedures. - Organizes and maintains inventory of specialty
supplies and equipment.Performed occasionally but critical to
successful performance of the job: - Attends and participates in
staff meetings, in-services and continuing education opportunities.
- Coordinates activities with other departments that support
surgical interventions, e.g. radiology, laboratory, blood bank,
nursing unit, etc. - Participates in the Quality Improvement
process to help make decisions that focus on the patient/customer
and what is best for the organization as a whole. - Assists with
coordination and monitoring of specialty supply loan/borrow
process. - Follows correct procedures in unusual and emergent
procedures/ situations. - Participates in annual inventory process.
- May be responsible for updating surgeon preference cards in the
computer system.Decision making and budget responsibilities (e.g.
impact limited to the employee, entire unit or organization-wide):
- Promotes cost effectiveness through the proper use and
conservation of supplies and equipment. - Identifies cost saving
measures.JOB SPECIFICATIONSEducation:Required - Bachelor or Master
of Science in Nursing. **Current RN employees as of 1/27/2020 will
be grandfathered back to the previous education requirement at
their time of original hire. **Preferred - N/AExperience:Required -
Minimum one (1) year of experience in an operating room as an RN
circulator or scrub, or completion of PeriOp 101 in lieu of
experience.Preferred - Ability to scrub and circulate in the
operating room.Licenses, Certifications and/or
Registrations:Required - Current licensure as a registered nurse by
the Oregon State Board of Nursing. - American Heart Association
Healthcare Provider BLS.Preferred - ACLS/CNOR certification. -
Membership in appropriate professional organization.Job Related

equipment and instrumentation used for surgical procedures. -
Effectively manages the utilization of supplies. - Maintains HIPAA
compliance and other patient confidentiality policies. - Follows
policies for disposal of hazardous waste and sharps, use of
personal protective equipment. - Displays an in-depth knowledge of
specialty procedures and instrumentation/equipment. - Respects and
advocates for patients/significant others rights. - Performs or
appropriately delegates all independent functions as defined in the
Oregon Nurse Practice Act. - Creates an environment in which
